The Guardian (ruru) - fine art print

One look at these huge owl eyes, and you know this ruru will not miss a thing!
If you are reading this, chances are owls mean something special to you, regardless of your background. Spanning vast eras and many cultures, owls are considered a spiritual bird, and our myths and legends are filled with them. Those with a European background may gravitate to the wisdom of owls. In Māori tradition in Aotearoa - New Zealand, the tiny ruru (morepork) owl is considered by many to be a kaitiaki - a watchful guardian and protector. Listening to ruru call at night, this is the interpretation that resonates most with me.
This artwork started as a photograph, but unlike many of my previous photo-artistic pieces, it was created with hand-painted brushstrokes using a digital stylus. The result is an artwork reminiscent of an oil painting. Because it is a digital creation, there is no "original" painting. Instead, it comes as a limited-edition fine-art print on archival heavyweight fine-art paper. Each print is hand-signed and editioned, and medium prints and above come with signed certificates of authenticity.
- Small 20x20cm, edition of 60 on fine-art paper
- Medium 30x30cm, edition of 30 on fine-art paper
- Large 40x40cm, edition of 20 (metal or fine-art paper, please allow extra time for metal printing).
- Extra-large 80x80cm, edition of 10 (metal or fine-art paper, please allow extra time for metal printing).
With gorgeous greens and purples and a touch of golden green light, the colour palette is joyful yet soothing. I imagine this morepork fine-art print hanging in a bedroom, ensuring the monsters stay firmly under the bed! It's also a fabulous choice as a gift for any owl lover.
Fine-art paper prints come on archival heavyweight paper using archival inks. The stated sizes are the printed area, and there is an additional white margin. Metal prints are on matte-finish Chromaluxe aluminium and have no margin. They come with a floating hanger and do not require framing, unless desired.

We received our fine art print on metal today (40x40) and are so pleased that we chose that finish. The detail and colours are absolutely stunning!
