Autumn (kākā) - fine art print
Autumn (kākā) - fine art print
Share
When I see a kākā, I see autumn and a paintbox of yellow ochre, cinnabar, burnt sienna, and umber. But these gorgeous shades are hidden under their wings and tummies. From above they are camouflaged in grey and brown to hide from their aerial predator - the now-extinct Haast's eagle. Now their mammalian predators hunt by smell, and kākā smell like a primordial musky forest...
Exhibited in: NZAFA Winter Exhibition (June-July 2018), "Birds on a Wire" solo exhibition (April, 2018).
Also known as kākā, North Island kaka, Nestor meridionalis septentrionalis, bush parrot, brown parrot, kawkaw
